  • Blue Jay
  • Hairy Woodpecker
  • Downy Woodpecker
  • White-breasted Nuthatch

We’re a month into our “by appointment” season. From November to April, please call ahead to schedule your visit; we usually need several days notice. If you are one of the exhibiting artists, this is a great time to pick up art! Volunteers, we have opportunities for you too.

We continue to host walks, carving classes, and more through the winter, listed on our events page.  If you follow us on Facebook, Twitter , tumblr, and/or Instagram too, you’ll find more comments, links, and observations. See you soon!

The “Through the Window” series is an informal record of observations made by staff, volunteers, and visitors. Anyone at the Museum may add to this list. Observations are usually through our viewing window: a large window with a film covering that helps hide watchers from the birds. We have chairs and binoculars to try, a white board, and many identification guides. Outdoors, several feeders are attached on a single, bear-resistant pole. A small pond, flowers and water plants, shrubs and trees add cover and (seasonally) other food choices . You can sometimes see what we see via our webcam.

  1. Erin, Alison and Kier,

How about putting selected items from your gift shop online to be purchased? Holiday buying online seems to be the way to shop these days. Maybe too complex to do this year, but a consideration for the future?

    1. Hi Louanne!

As I understand it, it’s a time/ROI issue – listing items from our physical gift shop online would require (to start) enabling a secure e-commerce tool, a different inventory-keeping method, shipping, not to mention maintenance an syncing of off- and online shops. It’s a terrific idea, but we haven’t yet pursued it because the current staffing/volunteer capacity doesn’t currently support that endeavor.

We do have a in-need-of-update online print-on-demand shop (though CafePress) and in-house we also have a long list of dreams and alternate platforms for making a better shop of that type (where fulfillment is a task external to us).

If you or someone you know would like to take on updating, expanding, and maintaining a better online shop as a volunteer project, let’s talk!

      Kir
