Populations of many species are under pressure and some species are facing extinction. Learn what you can do to protect vultures…and why that’s a really good idea! \nStop by the Museum (we’re open 10am – 4pm) to discover how many vulture species live in Vermont (and where). Can you find all of our vulture carvings? Are we missing any? \nCheck out one of our larger carvings and imagine where would we have had to put it if Bob Spear had carved it with its wings outspread! And what about vultures in other art? \nNot in Vermont? Drop by the Vulture Day website at https://www.VultureDay.org to stretch your curiosity with resources \, games\, education activities\, and more. Celebrate IVAD locally! \nCelebrate Vultures all around the world!\nThe first Saturday in September each year is International Vulture Awareness Day. But we can learn about and honor them more often than that!

SUMMARY:Counting Butterflies for Conservation: The Second Vermont Butterfly Atlas
DESCRIPTION:Butterflies are in your garden\, along your hiking trails\, and even along the side of the road. Vermont has over a hundred butterfly species but many are declining due to growing environmental threats like pesticides. \nJoin Dana Williams from the Vermont Center for Ecostudies to explore how butterfly volunteers help us understand the role butterflies play in our ecosystems\, how to identify your neighborhood species\, how we can protect butterflies with just a smartphone and a pair of binoculars\, and learn about the Butterfly Atlas. \nThis workshop will be followed by an optional field visit to an atlas block in Jonesville. \nMax: 15 participants \nRegister:\nRegister \nFree • suggested donation $10 \n
