SUMMARY:Walking Stick Carving with Bob Lindemann
DESCRIPTION:Create  a Eagle-head walking stick with Bob Lindemann. \nSpend your morning learning to carve a small Bellamy Eagle head with Bob. \nAfter lunch\, Bob will hand out a Striped Maple “Moose Maple” stick for each participant.  You will carve down the top of the stick\, and use what you learned in the morning to carve the eagle onto the top of the stick. You can then carve other things on the stick. \n \nYour walking stick will be “green/wet wood” (just cut) so it’s a bit easier to carve. It will need to dry at home over the winter. These can be painted in the spring (after fully drying) at home\, or add a name on it\, etc. \nOpen to all but a bit of experience helps\, especially when your get to the stick which is more difficult than the practice piece. It is best if you already have a knife and glove; please call the Museum if you do not. \nClass is $45 (there is a $10 discount for members) \nRegister at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/walking-stick-carving-with-bob-lindemann-registration-1044026971777 or use the button below. If the class fills\, please join the waitlist.Register via Eventbrite \nRegister\n\nMax 8 attendees as there are 4 tables\, and when we carve a 4′ stick we like to avoid poking each other…

SUMMARY:Belted Kingfisher (August Woodcarving Seminar)
DESCRIPTION:From August 12-14\, the Birds of Vermont Museum is hosting the Green Mountain Woodcarvers’ annual three-day seminar. This class kicks off the 4-day Festival of Woodcarving\, which culminates with an Outdoor Woodcarving Exhibit on Saturday August 15th (also at the Museum). \nBob Lindemann will be teaching this year’s GMWC/BoVM 3-day Carving seminar\, an 80%-scale Belted Kingfisher. The class will include roughing out the head and body\, adding the details\, and will include setting feet and mounting on a base or branch. \nDue to the bird’s reduced size\, the class is suitable for both novice and more experienced carvers\, as the carving can be don as either a more basic “smoothie” or a with more detail–the carver’s choice. This project is not recommended for “first-time” carvers. \nAs it is still a fairly large piece\, carvers should have a good size carving knife in a addition to a variety of smaller palm tools. \nDuring the class\, participants will be able to finish carving\, setting the eyes and legs\, and beginning to paint. We will finish painting at the GMWC Annual Meeting and Carve-In\, held here at the Museum in October. \nCost: $150 plus a materials fee ($130 plus materials for members of GMWC and/or Birds of Vermont Museum). The materials fee will be collected at the beginning of the class. The registration fee will be collected when you sign up. \nMax: 10 participants FULL \nTo become a member of the Green Mountain Wood Carvers\, visit http://greenmountainwoodcarvers.org/membershippage.html \nTo become a member of the Birds of Vermont Museum\, visit https://birdsofvermont.org/membership \nMore about Belted Kingfishers: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Belted_kingfisher \nThis event is part of the Festival of Woodcarving.
