SUMMARY:Power of Perspective: 2024 art exhibit continues in July
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 art show\, The Power of Perspective: shifting points of view opened May 1 and runs through October 31. \nVisit\, and find your own new idea\, question\, or experience.  Our call to artists for this year’s art show asked\, \nConsider the scope of an eagle’s eye—the narrow view of a gleaning warbler—the shadowed sight of a loon underwater. We may see birds above us from the ground\, or below us from a plane. We may use a camera lens to record from afar\, or a magnifier and lamps to perceive what is normally unknown. How does time influence your perspective? What if we “zoom out” from one bird to a species\, to an ecosystem\, to a planet? What if we “zoom in” to one bird to its wing\, to a feather\, to a gene? \nHow does your art reveal a point of view?  …How might a change in perspective alter people’s understanding of the lives and needs of the birds who share our world? \nDiscover how artists\, poets\, and sculptors have answered. \nDiscover how artists\, poets\, and sculptors have answered. SUMMARY:Green Mountain Woodcarvers May 2024 Carve-In
DESCRIPTION:Stop in to watch a wood carver at work\, ask a question\, or learn about this carving club. \nThe Green Mountain Woodcarvers will be carving in the workshop. The GMWC is a group of carvers from Vermont with members from around New England. They meet monthly for “Carve-Ins” around the State and host a annual Show and Class (in August). We’re delighted to have them at the Museum! \nAt the Carve-In\, carvers talk and work on a variety of woodcarving projects. Carvers are always happy to explain how they carve and to share their expertise with others. Ask questions and become a GMWC member! \nMore info at the Green Mountain Wood carvers website: http://greenmountainwoodcarvers.org/ \n

SUMMARY:The Power of Perspective: shifting points of view: 2024 art exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 art show\, The Power of Perspective: shifting points of view opens May 1 and runs through October 31. \nPast Exhibits\n2023: Spark! fueling a love of birds\n2022: Fine Feathers: at play with structure and function\n2021: Expanding Voices: perspectives on birding\n2020: Borders: illusions that constrain us\n2019: Pollinate This!\n2018: Common Grounds\n2017: B1rding by the Numb3rs\n2016: In Layers: the art of the egg\n2015: Birds of a Fiber\n2014: Perilous Passages \n

SUMMARY:Deadline for submissions to The Power of Perspective
DESCRIPTION:The Birds of Vermont Museum seeks art that speaks to both humans’ and birds’ perspectives and experiences. How might a change in perspective alter people’s understanding of the lives and needs of the birds who share our world? \nTODAY is the last day to submit artworks in any media\, by new or returning artists\, of any age\, to the Power of Perspective art show by 11:59 PM! \nOur 2024 show is about the ways perspective and points of view can shape what we perceive. How do we focus our creative “vision”? Consider the scope of an eagle’s eye—the narrow view of a gleaning warbler—the shadowed sight of a loon underwater. \nThe entire Call to Artists with all details is at https://birdsofvermont.org/2023/12/05/call-to-artists-perspective/ \nCreators can submit up to 3 pieces for consideration by using our online form at https://tinyurl.com/bovm-art-2024 .  Each work submitted should be accompanied by your contact info and a brief description of the piece (type\, media\, when made). (Need to use email or USPS instead? See details at the Call to Artists.) \nEntries are due by Monday\, March 18\, 2024\, 11:59 PM \nThe art show runs from May to October at the Birds of Vermont Museum. \nThe whole Call to Artists with all details is at https://birdsofvermont.org/2023/12/05/call-to-artists-perspective/

SUMMARY:CANCELLED February Bird Monitoring Walk
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled. Hope to see you next month! \nJoin our monthly monitoring walk to record birds at the Museum’s trails\, forest\, and meadow. Learn something new\, share what you know\, or both! \nAll birders —current\, experienced\, newbie and would-be— welcome! Most fun for adults\, older children. \nPlease bring your own binoculars and dress for the weather. We recommend bringing tick repellent (in most seasons) and a water bottle. \nMax: 12 people\n\nOutdoors \nIf the walk fills\, we’ll have a waitlist; we also offer these bird monitoring walks the last Saturday of every month. \n(Photo: Female Northern Cardinal.
