SUMMARY:Deadline for submissions to Birds and Myth
DESCRIPTION:The Birds of Vermont Museum’s 2025 art show is centered on the ideas of birds\, myth\, meanings\, metaphors\, and guides. We invite art submissions that bring birds and their meanings into your art to retell an old story\, weave several together\, represent your beliefs\, and/or create a myth for the future.\n \nThe entire Call to Artists with all details is at https://birdsofvermont.org/call-to-artists-birds-and-myth/ \nTODAY is the last day to submit artworks in any media\, by new or returning artists\, of any age\, to the Birds and Myth art show by 11:59 PM! \nBirds are some of our teachers\, not only through our senses and observations\, but also through our stories about them. These stories can be factual accounts\, broader myths\, or something in between. Legends\, beliefs\, representations\, truth\, insight\, guidance\, metaphors\, meanings\, and understandings all play a part. \nCreators can submit up to 3 visual\, written\, or audio pieces for consideration by using our online form at https://tinyurl.com/bovm-art-2025 .  Each work submitted should be accompanied by your contact info and a brief description of the piece (type\, media\, when made) and a short explanation of the myth you are drawing on\, debunking\, or creating for our future. No works using generative AI\, please. (Need to use email or USPS instead? See details at the Call to Artists.) There is no fee to submit your work. \nEntries are due by Monday\, March 24\, 2025\, 11:59 PM \nWe expect to inform creators about acceptance in early April. The art show runs from May to October at the Birds of Vermont Museum. \nThe entire Call to Artists with all details is at https://birdsofvermont.org/call-to-artists-birds-and-myth/

SUMMARY:Walking Stick Carving with Bob Lindemann
DESCRIPTION:Create  a Eagle-head walking stick with Bob Lindemann. \nSpend your morning learning to carve a small Bellamy Eagle head with Bob. \nAfter lunch\, Bob will hand out a Striped Maple “Moose Maple” stick for each participant.  You will carve down the top of the stick\, and use what you learned in the morning to carve the eagle onto the top of the stick. You can then carve other things on the stick. \n \nYour walking stick will be “green/wet wood” (just cut) so it’s a bit easier to carve. It will need to dry at home over the winter. These can be painted in the spring (after fully drying) at home\, or add a name on it\, etc. \nOpen to all but a bit of experience helps\, especially when your get to the stick which is more difficult than the practice piece. It is best if you already have a knife and glove; please call the Museum if you do not. \nClass is $45 (there is a $10 discount for members) \nRegister at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/walking-stick-carving-with-bob-lindemann-registration-1044026971777 or use the button below. If the class fills\, please join the waitlist.Register via Eventbrite \nRegister\n\nMax 8 attendees as there are 4 tables\, and when we carve a 4′ stick we like to avoid poking each other…

SUMMARY:Green Mountain Woodcarvers October 2024 Carve-In
DESCRIPTION:Stop in to watch a wood carver at work\, ask a question\, or learn about this carving club. \nThe Green Mountain Woodcarvers will be carving in the workshop. The GMWC is a group of carvers from Vermont with members from around New England. They meet monthly for “Carve-Ins” around the State and host a annual Show and Class (in August). We’re delighted to have them at the Museum for one of their monthly meetings! \nAt the Carve-In\, carvers talk and work on a variety of woodcarving projects. Carvers are always happy to explain how they carve and to share their expertise with others. Ask questions and become a GMWC member! \nMore info at the Green Mountain Wood carvers website: http://greenmountainwoodcarvers.org/carvein.html \nThey are on Facebook too\, at https://www.facebook.com/groups/486055891784569/
