DESCRIPTION:Birds and Myth continues in October! Visit often\, as some works are for sale and may go to new homes during the season. \nBirds are some of our teachers\, not only through our senses and observations\, but also through our stories about them. These stories can be factual accounts\, broader myths\, or something in between. Legends\, beliefs\, representations\, truth\, insight\, guidance\, metaphors\, meanings\, and understandings all play a part. What birds play a part in your autumn mythologies? You might enjoy reading the call to artists also. \nThe show is open when the Museum is (Wednesday – Sundays\, May 1 – October 31) and is included with admission. DESCRIPTION:The most relaxed birding around. And around and around … \nHow many birds (and birdwatchers) can we identify from a 17-foot diameter circle between sunrise and sunset? Can we beat last year’s record? We’ve seen birds big and small\, in night and day: from Kinglets to Great Blue Herons\, Barred Owls to Turkey Vultures. \nThis is a great long-running community science project. DESCRIPTION:Stop in to watch a wood carver at work\, ask a question\, or learn about this carving club. \nThe Green Mountain Woodcarvers will be carving in the workshop. The GMWC is a group of carvers from Vermont with members from around New England. They meet monthly for “Carve-Ins” around the State and host an annual Show and Class (in August). We’re delighted to have them at the Museum for one of their monthly meetings! \nAt the Carve-In\, carvers talk and work on a variety of woodcarving projects. Carvers are always happy to explain how they carve and to share their expertise with others. Let’s take a walk and explore tree identification with Forester Kathleen Stutzman. \nOpen to folks with any and all levels of familiarity with trees and/or birds. \nKathleen adds\, “I think the walk will focus on identifying trees\, but I probably won’t be able to resist talking about shrubs and herbaceous plants that we also encounter and are common!” \nMax: 12 people\nSuggested: $10 – $30\nRegister in advance.
