Green Mountain Woodcarvers May 2023 Carve-In

The Green Mountain Woodcarvers will be carving in the workshop. The GMWC is a group of carvers from Vermont with members from around New England. They meet monthly for “Carve-Ins” around the State and host a annual Show and Class (in August). We’re delighted to have them at the Museum!

At the Carve-In, carvers talk and work on a variety of woodcarving projects. Carvers are always happy to explain how they carve and to share their expertise with others. Ask questions and become a GMWC member!

Green Mountain Woodcarvers October 2021 Carve-In

What you need to get started carving: woodcarving tools (gauges and knife shown), protective glove, template or wood blank (bird-shaped blank pictured). And a water bottle, because it's important to stay hydrated.

Wren Woodcarving Workshop (February 28, 2015)

Carve and paint a Wren with us and David Tuttle of the Green Mountain Woodcarvers on February 28, in a one-day workshop (9a.m. – 3p.m.). All levels — bare beginners to decades of practice — totally welcome.

Do bring tools and gloves if you have them; if you don’t, let us know. Dave often brings some knives, gloves, etc. to sell. Please bring your lunch; we’ll have snacks and coffee.

Great for Scouts, teens and adults. Under 12 must bring Whittling Chip card or parental permission. (Yes, tools are sharp!)

$25 for Museum and GMWC members • $35 for everyone else

Saturday, November 10 • 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Come to a one-day carving class with David Tuttle of the Green Mountain Woodcarvers. We will carve and paint a White-breasted Nuthatch. Wood blank, eyes, snacks, and coffee provided.

No carving experience required! Beginners are as welcome as experts. Do bring your tools and gloves if you have them; if you don’t, let us know. Dave often brings some knives, gloves, etc. to sell.

Great for teens and adults. $25 for Museum and GMWC members • $35 for everyone else. Call 802 434-2167 to pre-register.

Saturday, September 29, 9am – 4pm

Try your hand at chip carving! We will be doing a heron and possibly some decorative bits under the expert tutelage of David Tuttle of the Green Mountain Woodcarvers.

Pre-register, please! Blank wood, morning coffee and pastries provided. Please bring tools (including chip carving knives), gloves*, and your lunch. The class will be at the Birds of Vermont Museum, in the workshop.

$35 (Members of GMWC or the Museum get $10 off!)

*Call us if you need help ordering knives or other tools.

Northern Cardinal Carving Class

We are really looking forward to this coming Saturday’s carving class.  David Tuttle of the Green Mountain Woodcarvers will be teaching it, which means a great combination of experience and fun. He’ll provide the cardinal wood blank and eyes; the Museum will offer snacks and coffee. Northern Cardinal Carving Class at the Birds of Vermont MuseumThe cardinal can stand alone or become a holiday ornament (as in the picture). There’s still some time to pre-register! Call (802) 434-2167 or email us at museum@birdsofvermont.org; you can bring payment to the class or pay by phone. (Aside: do you think we should we enable PayPal?)

If you take this class, please bring your lunch and your own carving tools. Some carving tools may be for sale–let us know when you register. The fee is $25 for Birds of Vermont Museum members / $35 non-members.

Class starts at 9:00am and goes until 4:00pm. Best for older kids and adults, and beginners are welcome.
