Sugaring Time?
In honor of Vermont’s annual Maple Open House Weekend and Audubon Vermont’s Maple Sugar on Snow Parties, the Birds of Vermont Museum will be open on March 25, 25 and the 31st (Saturday, Sunday, and Saturday).
Take a break between sampling one of Vermont’s best sweet treats and come learn about the birds that nest on maple trees and use the sugarbush to raise their young.
We will be open from 10 – 4 each day.
Sugar Houses Near the Museum
Audubon is the nearest sugar house to us, but it’s not the only one!
Huntington sugarmakers Audubon Vermont and Taft Milk and Maple Farm expect to be open during the all-state Maple Open House weekend site (March 24-25). Other local sugarers may be, but are not yet listed on the Maple Open House website.
The Huntington Sugar Makers Tour on March 31st includes five additional sugarhouses: Purinton Maple, Lawrence Phillips, Mountainside Maples, Stokes Sugar Works, and Dragonfly Sugarworks.
Pick up a map at Beaudry’s store for a complete list of those open , or download your own (PDF) from the Town of Huntington’s website. Oh, and there’s a pancake breakfast at the Huntington Community Church from 8a.m.–11a.m. on the 31st, too.
Volunteers Needed!
Saturday, March 24 / Sunday, March 25 / Saturday, March 31 • 1-3 hours between 10a.m.–4p.m.
We would love some volunteer help during these open weekend days. Can you spare an hour or three? We train (on the spot! It’s easy!). We’ll need a few folks who can point visitors to parts of the museum they may have missed, share the introductory video, and perhaps help identify birds. We always have some behind-the-scenes operational tasks, too.
Busy already at the end of March? (We know, you’re touring sugar houses!) No problem. We are looking for volunteers to help us throughout the season, and especially since we’re planning yet more great things for our 25th year. There are many ways to contribute: mind the admissions desk and gift shop, assist with school groups, maintain trails, help with set-up/break-down and leading special events, staff booths at fairs around VT.
